So far I have managed doing the translation on web based translator dictionary slowwwwwwwwwwwwww.........
But checking eack change to ensure it still works and that the grammer is nearly correct/readable (Bis jetzt habe ich gehandhabt das Tun der Übersetzung auf Web gegründetem Übersetzerverzeichnis slowwwwwwwwwwwwww......... Aber, eack Änderung überprüfend, um ihm Arbeiten noch sicherzustellen und daß das grammer fast correct/readable ist)

still one prob.. (noch ein prob..)
eg Forum » Wireless LAN » Can you speak German » Threadansicht

the reference at the end can it be changed to english (die Referenz am Ende kann es zu Englisch geändert werden)
dave are others trying to do the same maybe we can do parts rather than in private (dave sind andere, die versuchen, dasselbe zu tun, möglicherweise, das wir Teile anstatt in privatem tun können) :)

Jonas schrieb am 15.11.2002 um 06:24 Uhr

you have to translate parts of the .php files. in case of "threadansicht" its the showtopic.php afaik

Narodnaja schrieb am 15.11.2002 um 07:49 Uhr

these expressions are saved in various php-Files, you should search for "$navpath" in all files and change the found expressions.

Thanx for the tip, [edited] and bugchecking all the frames and pages

dave

surge schrieb am 16.11.2002 um 17:13 Uhr

yeah that would be alot of work... To bad there isn't a language set up on it so you could just change the language file insted of all the pages

Jonas schrieb am 18.11.2002 um 20:28 Uhr

we are discussing that problem intern. we will integrate any fast and easy to use language feature asap ;)

fingers schrieb am 17.02.2003 um 00:13 Uhr

any closer to having an english version/theme
dave

Not yet, sorry. We definitely have multilanguage support on our todo-list for version 2.9, though (which will be the next release if nothing unforeseen happens).
In case you were going to ask: No, there's currently no ETA for 2.9 =)

fingers schrieb am 18.02.2003 um 08:11 Uhr

I have zipped up an english translation of thwboard 2.8.1 beta and made it available at {edited out}
you are free to use it if you want
dave
PS the hardest part of the translation was the html german characters.

we are working on the 2.9, support of other languages is a big point and the system we are designing is a bit tricky. nethertheless there will be versions of the ThWboard in English, German and maybe other languages published by the developer team.
Stay tuned, maybe we need people doing translation work ...

I am still proceeding with my undertaking of a translation of 2.8.1 and removing all language speciic text from within the code, it's a big job, do you want my efforts when i'm done?

I'd say that switching between languages should then only entail the creation of a global variable/cookie set that will direct the php files to the correct include location for text just like the template choices are selected now,( I understand that this may be not compatable with your 2.9 release) but I don't see the actual writing of this to be the major hurdle it's the fact that language specific text is spread inside the code and the use of variables to replace it is sometimes not possible eg register.html, i couldn't see a way except to create a langage specific file to call.

Please let me know if you do not wish to make my efforts publically available, thankyou. You might be able to extract the my english translation of the german at least.

But others may wish to create a new language file eg spanish, greek, french etc for themselves
As it will take me a number of weeks, (limited time available)
[edit] Complete!? [edit] the results can be viewed (most of the time)

Argl ok, my English is not the very best *grin* but I will try to explain the different ideas we had to support several languages.

Your idea is the same I had, putting all the language specific text from php files to an external include file and translating the template files.
But in further discussion the main negative aspect of this everytime-include was to big. The speed, which our board is optimized to, would decrease.
Nethertheless it is a fine idea.

Our second idea is: A few versions before we supported the extension .php3. This was very simple because the release script we have replaces the extension .php with .php3 when releasing. We think about this: Marking all text with pseudo-html-tags like <lng1001> </lng1001> or <lng4711> </lng4711>. These tags won't interfere with the normal view of the cvs version and we can do experimental programming. Before release we create so called "translation files" which have all the "language tags" with the language specific translation. The release script would merge the files in one language specific release package. Speed is the same, the functionality to change the language "on the fly" would be not given. But you can install several ThWboards with the same database.

We are happy to see that so much work is done, it is a confirmation of our work :)
Because you have done a great part of work recently, I would like to invite you to work with us on the language specific localisations :)

fingers schrieb am 22.02.2003 um 01:06 Uhr

Well,
Thank-you for the invitation at this stage i can accept! But it is qualified as the future is a little unknown.

The thing i like most about the thwboard is the speed, i would not like to crush this aspect..

which languages are you going to support in version 2.9?

Bluetooth schrieb am 23.02.2003 um 02:02 Uhr

first of all German of course ;)
Furthermore English, if we have time and the resources (participating people) French, maybe Italian or Spanish ... the localization is not the real problem, when the system once is implemented. Anybody who wants to create a localized version will be providet with the cvs code, including all neccessary information to build a language transform file. After this, we will release the localized version.

MrNase schrieb am 23.02.2003 um 11:13 Uhr

the only problem that goes together with multi-langual features is that we need someone who can help that people from spain or italy .
We have to rebuild the whole structure of this board, because we need much more
boards for support etc.
All Hack describtions have to be done in english :(

I think we have many german users...
Making this board available in other languages will increase the amount of users in this board and we'll have a mess.

We could do it like other bbs ....
www.thwboard.de only german support
www.thwboard.com english support (including spanish etc.)

This would be very handy, because i think normal users with less of experience who try to help with supporting the newbies are able to help in their foreign language only...
For me it would be not that difficult but think of all the ppl who don't even know what a "template" is ;)

Don't get me wrong, iam really looking forward to make this board available in spain for instance but please don't let beeing supported in this board and please found another resource for those who speak english.
We should never forget that germany is the origin of this software and we have to support the germans as much as we can.

Dave, your help is appreciantly welcomed,
we will definitely build up our language support, in the actual as-is situation the English-Support-Board is the first step.
All help is welcomed.

Jonas schrieb am 23.02.2003 um 13:52 Uhr

don't get mrnase wrong, he tries just to discuss the problems which will appear with mulit-lingual support, not more!

@MrNase: think positive plz! ;)

MrNase schrieb am 23.02.2003 um 15:51 Uhr

please read my post! >:(

I've never said that u are unwanted! I just said we need a completely english speaking community, because it is really hard to support different ppl speaking different languages in just one single board!

I think "found" wasn't the right word, i meant something like "build up"...
The Developers should build up another board where everything is in english...
Now clear? :)

@ jonas: :D I'll do my best ;)
